Glaucus Learning Space and Office
We are Iris and Rebeca, the essence of Glaucus Languages. We’re two Canarian sisters, linguists and residents in the lovely town of El Cotillo. After finishing our studies and living in Mainland Spain and abroad for a while, we decided to come back to the Canaries to start our professional journey in the islands.
We opened our school with great passion, aware of the multilingual reality of the people who live in El Cotillo or visit Fuerteventura. We wanted to create a project that takes into account its Canarian roots, focusing on communication, knowledge and culture.
Since we were little, our interests have been connected to languages. We were avid readers, always learning new languages through self-study, writing stories… We have always been very passionate about cinema, music, and learning about other cultures.
Rebeca did her studies on Japanese Language and Literature at the University of Seville. Her academic profile allowed her to attend one year at the prestigious University of Tokyo (Tokyo Daigaku). There, she was given the opportunity of teaching and tutoring Spanish to fellow Japanese classmates, making her discover her vocation for teaching.
She obtained her official master’s on Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Valencian International University.
She loves content creation, new technologies and intercultural mediation.
Iris studied her Bachelor’s in English Studies at the University of La Laguna, finishing her studies at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies at the Free University of Berlin. Later, she pursued her official master’s on Translation Studies at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.
She has also done several translation courses, a professional practice she combines with teaching.
She enjoys devising creative and engaging learning dynamics that make her students laugh, as well as translating and proofreading.
